We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
Step six makes me feel like it’s my opportunity to take a break from beating up on myself. The previous steps were digging into who I am. They revealed my natural human attributes; some of which have been distorted. That I’m just human and not every thing about me is a defective character. It is those that I had to become entirely ready for God to remove. April B.
Tradition 6
An NA group, ought never endorse, finance, or lend the NA name to any related facility or outside enterprise lest problems of money, property, or prestige divert us from our primary purpose.
I had an experience at an NA function last year. An outside entity was accepting donations, that were not going to the 7th tradition. This diversion served as a great opportunity to share with a group of newcomers our traditions. To give money because we ate a plate of food would be financially endorsing any related facility or outside enterprise and violation of our traditions. Our primary purpose is to carry the message to the still suffering addict and allow the opportunity for all to make that choice. Anonymous Addict
Concept 6
Group conscious is the spiritual means by which we invite a loving God to influence our decision
At AREA we do a group conscious. At Home Group you do a group conscious. This is when I get the opportunity to do the right thing for the fellowship, even if it doesn’t feel like the right thing for me. If my conscious is not awakened, if I’m not in a relationship with the God my understanding; and not working the spiritual principles of the program, we are still operating on ego. We are still on self interest. And when it is the opinion of some or because it’s about popularity, I have to consciously make a decision on what’s best for the group. I have to be working with a sponsor, in a service position, and participating in the fellowship and if not, we are still on self interest. Being of service and practicing the spiritual principles, I find out that, what’s good for the group ultimately is good for me. That last paragraph talks about what’s in the best interest for NA, and that is in the best interest for self. Saad Y
